In spring 2003 the thirteen adjacent municipalities joined the BUND to work together and protect the woodlands. They want to keep this natural heritage as untouched as possible and support sustainable development in their region: The forestry use will be gentle, green tourism and regional traditions of handcraft will be supported.
The BUND wants the region of “Hohe Schrecke”, one of the last primeval forests in Germany, to become famous all over middle Europe. The “Hohe Schrecke” is an example for nature protection and sustainable economy going hand in hand – so the people in the region and the old woodlands can have a future.
