The hornest is the biggest indigenous Vespidae. Many people are frightened because the hornets are big, buzz loud and is said to be dangerous. But hornets are less agressive than wasps or bees and no more poisonous than them.
Nowadays hornets can only be found regionally. To prevent them from becoming extinct, they have been a protected species since 1987. So the protection of their natural habitats like alluvial forests, meadow orchards and mixid forests is vry improtant. Most people have a lot of prejudice against hornets.
My aim is to reduce their pejudice and to show them that hornets are not dangerous at all but quiet useful. My name is Jochen Zippel and I am accredited special counsellor for hornets in Thuringia. In my presentation I want to explain how useful hornets are, show their circle of the year and talk about the relationship of hornets towards humans and humans towards hornets. And of course I am prepared to answer all your questions about hornets.
